Janet Devlin Releases Long-Awaited Single “Working For The Man”

anet Devlin has released her new single “Working For The Man,” a song that has been part of her live shows for years but is only now getting an official release.

The track was originally written when she was 17 during a writing session in London with Jack Savoretti. Even though it didn’t make it onto her debut album, it stuck with her. Over time, it became a regular part of her set, with fans continuing to ask for a recorded version.

Now, more than a decade later, it’s finally out.

“Working For The Man” reflects on pressure, identity, and the feeling of being stuck in a system that doesn’t leave much room to figure yourself out. Devlin has said the song came from a mix of personal frustration and what she saw growing up, watching her parents work constantly and still feel the weight of it.

The new version builds on that original idea with a fuller sound. She co-produced the track alongside Jurgen Korduletsch and Rick Chambers, with mixing handled by Vance Powell and mastering by Christian Wright. It leans into her country and Americana influences, with a mix of guitar, piano, and a more layered arrangement that keeps the emotion at the center.

Revisiting the song years later also gave it a different perspective. She recorded it in Nashville with a full band after years of performing it in a much simpler form, something she’s described as a full-circle moment.

The release follows her recent project Not My First Emotional Rodeo, a deluxe version of her album Emotional Rodeo, which helped further establish her place in the country and Americana space. That album found success on the iTunes Country Chart and picked up strong support from radio.

Devlin is also preparing for a series of live dates throughout the year, including appearances at In It Together Festival, Belladrum Festival, and Country Calling. These shows follow a run of performances that have continued to build her audience across the UK.

With “Working For The Man,” she’s bringing a long-standing part of her catalog into the present, giving it a proper release while holding onto what made it resonate in the first place.
