Stevie Nicks At 75 – In Her Own Words

May 26, 2023
by Annie Marie

To celebrate another year of Stevie Nicks I revisited my photo archives and found some favorite quotes and photos from the road. Check out the gallery below to view the photos and quotes. Happy birthday, Stevie!

“Girls keep that in mind when you have your dream, don’t give up. Just keep going cause you can do it if you want to. If you’re determined it will happen for you. I’m living proof.”
“They saw a girl who believed in herself. What I want to tell you is that it was just a dream. It was just a dream but I believed in it.”
On the song "Moonlight" “Those are the tragic heartbreaks that actually bring out songs like this. When something like this happens my advice to you is to write about it… You can’t write songs like this if you’re not broken-hearted.”
“We did it and you can do it too. It is all out there. You just have to reach out and take it.”
“Christine and I, we made a pact at the very beginning that if we were ever in a room of super famous guitar players that didn’t treat us with the respect that we thought that we deserved, that we would just stand up and say, ‘This party’s over,’ and we would walk out.”
“I was not having it. I was not going to be the worlds biggest fluke!“ – On continuing her solo career after the success of “Bella Donna”
“Turn on your radio and put on music you love. From a long time ago, or from now, or today’s hits. Whatever you want to listen to if that’s what makes you feel better. If you have to crank it up every morning at 6:30 when you get up to go to work, DO IT.”
“This is a real testament to keeping your eyes open for your dreams and not giving up… I can only say that I just want you to remember if you don’t go to the dark side and you keep your dreams alive then look, it may take 44 years but it’s going to happen!”
"The song saved my life in a lot of ways. It brought that amazing emotion out of me that as a writer I love. That’s why I do this.”  – On the song “Moonlight”
“That is family. That is what family does. They let people like me just dance into the night and try to bring some entertainment and some love into your life…and some fun and a little bit of wisdom….”
“And most important, if it had not been for the success of Wild Heart, everybody would’ve thought that Stevie Nicks’ solo career was a fluke…If it wasn’t for that I would not be standing here tonight. I would be off waiting for Fleetwood Mac to go on tour.”
“It means the world to me. You have no idea. It’s like I suddenly feel free. I feel like after all these years to be able and go out and do what I absolutely really love to do, which is just to sing all my songs to people and tell you why they were written. Because it’s like the book of my life.”
“If you believe in something and you believe you could do something great…Don’t ever let anybody get in your way and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it because that’s a lie.
“Sometimes crazy is good. Wild heart came out incredibly crazy and I loved it.”
“You’re are special and you are beautiful and you can do anything you want. And Girls don’t let anybody get in your way. Not while I’m around.”
“I don’t care if anybody buys my records or not. This is for me now. At my age I am writing for me and I am having a wonderful time writing songs for my own personal love of just sitting at the piano and creating something. Even if just a few of you love it, that is all I need.”
”Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are not cute enough, handsome enough, beautiful enough, talented enough, smart enough. Always know that you are all of that and that you’re really marvelous. Go on that and never ever give up your dreams…because they’re yours. Don’t let anybody take them away.”
“I’m going to chronicle it, I’m going to be a reporter, I’m going to be an archivist because in my life I have realized time passes and things just pass away and you forget stuff that you shouldn’t forget. That’s why you have people like me to write stuff about this down so it doesn’t just fade away.”
