King Princess will make their stage debut in Girl, Interrupted at The Public Theater, with music written by Aimee Mann
The show runs May 13 through June 21, with an official opening on June 4. It’s a new adaptation by Martyna Majok, based on Susanna Kaysen’s memoir, and it focuses on a young woman’s time inside a psychiatric hospital after a short evaluation leads to her being admitted. From there, the story stays centered on the people around her and how those relationships unfold inside that space.
King Princess is cast as Lisa, with Juliana Canfield playing Susanna. Emily Skinner takes on Dr. Wick, and Ta’Rea Campbell plays Valerie. The rest of the cast includes Gabi Campo, Katherine Reis, Mia Pak, Sally Shaw, and Manoel Felciano, among others, making it a full ensemble rather than a stripped-down staging.

The music comes from Aimee Mann, using material from Queens of the Summer Hotel, which was originally written with the same source material in mind. In this version, her songs are part of how the story is told, not something layered on top after the fact.
The creative team includes director Jo Bonney and choreographer Sonya Tayeh, which suggests the production will lean into movement and staging as much as dialogue. The design team covers scenic, lighting, sound, and costume work, with orchestrations by Todd Almond and music direction by Andrea Grody.
The production is also partnering with NAMI-NYC, with plans for post-show conversations and resources tied to the themes in the story. That connection extends the show beyond the performance itself and into something more grounded in real-world context.
Performances take place at The Public Theater in New York, with tickets available through their box office and online.
