YC’s own Laveda step into bold new territory today with the release of their third album Love, Darla on Bar/None Records. The quartet digs into the beauty and chaos of their city, weaving together shoegaze haze, punk edges, and vulnerable bursts of clarity.
The focus track, “Tim Burton’s Tower,” has been with the band the longest—born from a phone demo and inspired by the gothic outline of a church in Troy, NY. Its video, directed by Mars Alba, was filmed on the Rockaway Peninsula and leans into a kind of dream-like escapism: headphones on, the world tuned out, running into your own movie scene.
Ahead of the album, Laveda teased their evolving sound with three singles—“Heaven” with its heavy, cinematic pulse, the jagged rush of “Cellphone,” and the woozy fuzz-pop of “Strawberry.” Together they paved the way for Love, Darla, a record that feels restless, cathartic, and alive with the electricity of NYC itself.
The band kicks off a full U.S. run with an album release show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on September 16, followed by dates stretching coast to coast—including a Nashville matinee at The Basement on September 24 and a slot supporting The Dandy Warhols at Levitation in Austin.
