Shirley Manson Brings Gaza Solidarity to the Stage in Philadelphia

On September 16, 2025, Garbage’s Happy Endings tour stopped in Philadelphia, and Shirley Manson made sure her outfit carried a message as strong as the music.

She wore a keffiyeh around her neck, a strip of fabric in the colors of the Palestinian flag tied to her side, and bold red boots that lit up under the stage lights. Over her black jumpsuit, she started the night in a leather jacket painted by artist Sophie Lord, featuring red and green details and the words No Gods No Masters, the title of Garbage’s seventh studio album, across the back. A few songs in, Manson took off the jacket revealing “FREE GAZA” painted across the back of her jumpsuit, which also carried flashes of red and green. When the crowd saw it, they erupted in cheers.

It was a striking look, but not surprising. Manson has long used her platform to speak on political and human rights issues, both online and in her shows. This Philadelphia night was another reminder that Garbage’s stage is not only for songs that span decades, but also for solidarity, defiance, and truth-telling.
